It was to be my first collaboration with makeup artist Krista Marie. She had arranged a model for the shoot and was driving up from South Carolina. Half way through her 5 hour drive she called me to tell me that the model had flaked and wouldn’t be at the shoot. Krista had to be in Charlotte anyways and I had arranged my time to shoot with her so I looked for a stand in. As I flipped through my phone, Jillian’s name popped up. I had worked with Jillian on a project in 2007 and had been impressed with her so I gave it a chance and called her. Good luck that day! Jillian was in Asheville but had to be in Charlotte later that day and was up for shooting.

The shoot got started quite a bit later than planned and was pretty much done on the fly with no preparation but we got some great images, including the one below, which has become one of my most commented images and one of my favorites. The dress she wore was one the Krista had brought along. It was a rich purple in color. The image was quite impressive in color, but the black and white version reminds me of old Hollywood glamour images.
